The Grossinger Hotel seen bustling with guests in 1948 – Daily Mail



The Borscht Belt was once a popular vacation spot for New York City Jews from the 1920s to 1970s, with more than 500 hotels in its peak. The holiday destinations were immortalized in the 1987 movie Dirty Dancing, starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey (pictured), which was set in fictional Catskills resort, Kellerman’s. But it has now turned into a site of desolation, with trees growing out of indoor pools and carpets overrun with moss. But the photographer Marisa Scheinfeld believes there is ‘beauty and growth’ in the pictures as well.
