Miliband uses a giant stone to make a symbolic commitment – Daily Mail

Ed Miliband, who was accused of ‘hubris on a Biblical scale’ after unveiling an 8ft tablet inscribed with Labour’s manifesto commitments yesterday, insisted today he did not regret the decision. It came after London Mayor Boris Johnson described the monument as ‘some weird commie slab’. But speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Mr Miliband – who was out campaigning in Brighton this morning – defended the idea, saying: ‘It’s got people talking.’ Asked if he regretted it, he said: ‘Not at all, because I think trust is a huge issue in this election. The difference with our pledges is that they are not going to expire on May 8. Nick Clegg went into the last election saying he would cut tuition fees. He trebled them. David Cameron went into the last election saying no iffs, no buts, net migration down to the tens of thousands. It’s 298,000. We are setting out promises; they don’t expire on May 8.’
