What better way to start a brand new year than with a brand new phone? We can't think of anything better, so we've gotten in cahoots with Sprint to give not one, not two, but SEVEN lucky readers a shiny new device.
Up for grabs we have:
Since these are Sprint devices, you'll need to be in the US to win, and the contest is for the device only which means you're on your own for service, accessories, and anything else your heart may desire. As with all of our contests, if you've won a device in the past year from us, you're not eligible to win one of these. Gotta share the goodies with your fellow Android family! Also, one entry per person please. If we catch you trying to be sneaky and entering more than once, you will be disqualified and put on the naughty list.
So, to enter, all you have to do is leave a comment below telling us which of these fine phones you would like and why. The contest will run until just after the new year, with the winners announced on the blogs as normal. Good luck everyone!
Lovers of Angry Birds have a reason to celebrate this week. First off, their favorite game is turning 3 years since it was first launched. Secondly, to celebrate this very special occasion, Rovio has released an update that brings an extra new bird to the Angry band wagon (the bubbly Pink Bird), some explosive birthday cake features and fine-tuning for the latest Apple phone ? the iPhone 5. But wait, that?s not all. The most exciting news is yet to come. The birthday update includes 30 brand new levels:
?Happy Birdday! Can you believe that Angry Birds is turning three? We sure can?t! Celebrate with 30 NEW LEVELS, birdday cake, and the bubbliest bird ever ? Pink Bird! But watch out for the cake ? it?s not a lie, but it packs a BIG punch!?
The new Angry Birds levels are packed with fun and provide 15 party levels and 15 Bad Piggies inspired levels. Get ready for countless hours of fun, featuring all your favorite feathered characters. Since it first launched the game in 2009, Rovio has issued Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Space, Bad Piggies and the super popular Angry Birds Star Wars ? which makes the delight of geeks all around the world.
There?s more good news. Gamers will surely be thrilled to know that in 2016, Angry Birds is officially going on the big screen. It will be filmed in 3D and Rovio?s John Cohen is in charge of producing the film. Strangely enough, the Finnish company did not opt to work with some big shot producer/director from Hollywood but instead decided to fund the production itself. Nevertheless, we are looking forward to seeing the end result.

Falcon Pro (Beta) was my weekly app pick last week, and for good reason. Twitter clients aren't in short supply, but with Twitter's new rules, some of the better ones seen recently are starting to wind down development before being fully complete. Not so with Falcon Pro though, as work is now complete, the beta process is over and the app is available for download from the Google Play Store.
The key differences between the finished article and the beta version will be features. In the beta, several of the key functionalities such as lists and search were disabled. Naturally, those are now turned on, and a couple of other goodies are packed in there too. One such addition is Tweetmarker support. This comes with a slight warning that it slows down refresh a little, but it's a nice addition to have all the same.
And, let's not forget the UI. Falcon Pro is great to look at, scrolling is smooth, and the inclusion of an in-app web browser for viewing web links is well executed. We're going to spend a little time with the finished build, so look out for a full review in the coming days. But, if you're eager to take a look, head on over to the Play Store and grab a copy. It is a paid app, and pricing is set at £0.64/$1.03.
We’ve been showing you iPad mini parts and pouring over speculative reports for what seems like months now, back when no one even believed that Apple would ever release a smaller version of the iPad, so it’s quite exciting to think that the event is almost here! With the launch event just a few hours away now, the final preparations are underway, with the online store now officially down while Apple readies exciting new goodies (which may well include much more than the iPad mini). As the minutes tick away, new rumours are coming thick and fast, with AppleInsider reporting that yet more iPad mini parts seem to have leaked online, namely Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS antennas. The pictures come courtesy of Nowhereelse.fr, which has a good track record for parts photos lately. As AppleInsider notes, the fact that a GPS antenna is present is an indication that the iPad mini will have cellular capability, rather than just being Wi-Fi-capable, as had been previously reported.

LG has been busy lately having only yesterday unveiled the Optimus G which will serve as their flagship device for the next little while. Another LG announcement has arrived though, and it brings the Optimus L9. Packing a 4.7-inch IPS display, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with 1GB DDR2 (RAM) / 4GB e-MMC and a high-density 2,150mAh battery as well as a 5MP shooter all wrapped in a 9.1mm thin body the Optimus L9 isn't a lot to write home about but LG has tossed in a few other goodies as well to help differentiate it.
A new app called Quick Translator that makes use of Optical Character Recognition is going to be included and will take not only words, but also entire sentences and phrases and translate them from nearly 44 foreign languages to 64 user languages. Other items such as Quick Memo and the My Style Keypad which can detect left or right handed use have been included as well. The only thing missing is a release date and region listing, we're guessing IFA 2012 might bring more.
There were some discussions a few days ago about the new Focus ST ad featuring the use of augmented reality while using the Blippar iPad app. Eager to test it myself I had zero luck trying to locate the ads after spending a good amount of time searching the interwebs. A quick email to the company and a few days later we now have the ads right here on FocusST.org so you can check out the goodies for yourself. The printable ads feature the all new Focus ST that can be seen in the upcoming movie Sweeney.

If you bought a Nexus device so you could happily flash all manner of custom ROMs, today is a good day. MIUI has updated their codebase to include Jelly Bean for the 2.8.17 release, provided you have a GSM Nexus S, a Galaxy Nexus (in either GSM or Verizon's CDMA/LTE flavor) or a Nexus 7.
The ROM will have all the goodies you expect from MIUI, with the addition of things like Google Now, and that delicious butter that makes all the difference. On the surface, things will look a lot like the previous versions of MIUI. Like Samsung, or HTC, the folks at MIUI have a look, feel, and feature set they think is worth keeping. A whole lot of users agree.
No word on when to expect any newer versions for other devices, but you can be sure the team is hard at work, an much will depend on manufacturers providing the necessary hardware drivers and kernel bits. In the meantime, MIUI fans with Nexus devices can find all the details and download links at the source link.
The Motorola Droid 4 is a solid smartphone option for users on Verizon interested in a QWERTY device, and today, it becomes an even better option with Android 4.0.
