DirecTV Everywhere Android app now streams HBO, Starz, Showtime, and more

DirecTV Everywhere Android app now streams HBO, Starz, Showtime, and more

Here’s something you don’t see every day: a U.S. television provider recognizes that its paying customers would like to be able to access video on their mobile devices, and that company steps in to provide it. And as an added bonus, it’s available to Android users first.

DirecTV has updated its official Android application to support on-demand streaming to phones. The latest version allows users to view movies and original programming from HBO, Cinemax, Encore, Showtime, Starz and other popular destinations. The app works only in the United States and not all devices are supported, but as Engadget points out, this is one of the rare times when a media app is available on Android phones before it goes to iPhone. (And yes, the app supports some Android tablets.)

There’s no live streaming of DirecTV channels yet, but users can see plenty of their favorite shows at their convenience. The DirecTV Android app also supports browsing television listings by channel or broadcast time, and helps fans discover new content by seeing what’s trending. Once a user finds what he or she wants, the app can remotely set recordings through the DVR. It also sets parental controls from the device and includes account management tools.

DirecTV is available for download now in Google Play Device and version compatibility will vary.

DirecTV app gets an update transforming your iPad into a mobile TV

DirectTV is a very popular app for the iPad that enables users to remotely control their TV sets by enabling built-in controls to set recordings or just casually change the channel. The app comes packed with a channel guide and it gives you the ability to set your favorite channels or learn more about the show you are currently watching.

Recently the app is received an impressive and well deserved update. From now on, users will be able to watch TV right within the app. The new version also adds the possibility of choosing to watch live TV from 38 channels with the condition that you share the same home network as your DirecTV Plus HD DVR. To summarize things, you will now be able to use your tablet as a portable TV device, but it will not work outside the walls of your home, nor does it offer remote viewing access to your personal content.

Apart from that, you can still search, record and control everything automated functions of your DirecTV setup remotely. The app now offers a quick way to scroll through the lists of available channels via a ?Live TV Streaming? Module.

If you are not exactly sure how to use your app to the maximum, don?t worry, you can receive tips in the help section in order to get guidance through the features of the app. Another useful feature enabled with this update is Parental Control which can be set on the iPad to block certain content or channels.

In order to get the app, users have to subscribe to DirecTV and own a registered account. Other than that, the app is free.
