The Sony Tablet S is the latest device to gain access to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Sony announced today that the slanted tablet can get the newer software via an over the air firmware update. Device owners can make sure the tablet is at least 75 percent charged, connect to Wi-Fi, and then tap ‘OK’ when a prompt appears asking the user to update.
The new software has a number of improvements and feature upgrades. The new lockscreen can go directly to the camera app or to notifications, the camera app now features filters and adjustment options, and users can drag icons together to create folders on the home screen. These are common features of ICS, but Sony has added a few unique things to the software. There’s now a “Small Apps” feature similar to the Mini Apps found in Samsung TouchWiz UX. Small Apps are floating apps to use the calculator, browser, or remote control without having to go into an app.
Sony has applied a bit of customization to the Ice Cream Sandwich design, but you can see a list of more highlighted features and a video below.
